Clever Cotton

Sam Barker, who is the Chief Knitting Pixie and Purchasing Tsar at Clever Cotton & The Vegan Haberdasher, has been a knitter all her life and upon turning vegan she encountered a problem - how was she going to continue with her favourite hobby in an ethical, sustainable, and cruelty-free way?

The more she investigated plant-based yarns, the more problems she encountered. Greenwashing, unexpected animal products used in production processes, products labelled vegan which were not sustainable (i.e., virgin plastics in acrylic)… the list was endless. She then started to look at her other crafty hobbies.

'Why,' she asked herself, 'isn't there just one place where I can knit, sew, crochet, and make lots of lovely things, as well as repair and repurpose my old clothes in just one place, instead of having to constantly shop around?' Where I know everything stocked fits my ethics and is funky and fun at the same time?'

Clever Cotton was already in existence, but for Sam to fulfil her dream she launched a Crowdfunder to set up the vegan haberdashery department of her little online department store. And in a few short weeks it is already proving to be a sparkly shiny success story.

Bottle Up

Our story - Okay, maybe we’re biased, but we think our hometown, Amsterdam, is beautiful.

And our history has given us a special connection to the water.

Then you’ll understand why our frustration at seeing our canals filled with single-use plastic meant we had to act: “grab and go” water culture had to change.

So, we started Bottle Up, creating a bottle that’s attractive enough to keep, durable enough to last, safe enough to refill, and just as convenient and refreshing as ordinary bottled water. Our mission is simple: to eliminate single-use water bottles. Our solution: Bottle Up.
