Head of Business Development
"Come join a fast-growing nonprofit on a mission to ensure that the food that we eat is delicious, sustainable and ethical!"
Cellular Agriculture Australia is a not-for-profit dedicated to developing a future-fit workforce, open access research and an enabling environment for a thriving cellular agriculture industry in Australia.
We are in an exciting phase of our evolution. We are growing our core team, developing a new strategy and gaining real traction through the relationships we have built and the initiatives we have delivered.
The context for this role:
We have doubled (from last financial year) our expected revenue and expenditure in our FY22/23 budget and have reached the point where we can invest in a number of critical roles that are essential to the future growth of the organisation.
We are looking to diversify our funding sources and have a goal of becoming a self sustaining organisation. There are two aspects to the Head of Business Development role: Firstly, it will encompass fundraising in the typical not-for-profit sense with a focus on nurturing existing donors and broadening our donor network. In parallel, the role involves development and execution of a business development strategy including the creation of recurring revenue streams to fund our operations and activities. The approach will balance our current position and our aspirations for growth and impact.
What we are looking for:
- Above all else, you want to be part of a small, nimble and highly-collaborative team that believes in the potential of cellular agriculture and is committed to enabling the future of the sector in Australia.
- You have a proven track record in developing and implementing fundraising and business development strategies - particularly in small organisations.
- You believe in developing recurring income streams as a core revenue source of not-for-profit organisations.
- You want a ‘seat at the table’ and to be part of designing and delivering on the future direction and impact of our organisation.
- You thrive on being accountable for achieving agreed revenue targets.
- Whilst you’re focussed on targets, you are also willing to roll your sleeves up and support the operational management of the organisation and its programs, when needed.
What we can offer:
- A high degree of transparency and inclusivity from the get-go.
- Parity of salaries across similar roles, including those in the Senior Leadership Team.
- A seat at the table as part of the Senior Leadership Team where you will be integral in shaping the future of our fundraising and business development strategy.
- Part-time and highly flexible work conditions - we are currently a completely remote team with colleagues in Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand.
- Exposure to all facets of the cellular agriculture sector in Australia.
- The opportunity to shape your position description with us as our organisation and your role evolves.
The role is part-time (equivalent to 3 working days) and is fully remote (anywhere in Australia). Please note we are not in a position to sponsor visas.
Please send your CV and cover letter to careers@cellagaustralia.org and include alongside your cover letter, a short answer to each of the following questions (max ~200 words per question):
- What do you believe revenue breakdown should look like for a growing organisation like CAA?
- What is a career highlight for you, and why is it so?
- What are the three most important characteristics of an organisation that you want to be a part of?
Applications without a cover letter or answers to the above questions will not be considered.
Closing date 15 October 2022.
