"We're a small, nimble and highly collaborative team that believe in the potential of cell ag!"

Apply

This is a new leadership role that offers broad scope to carve out and execute a fundraising strategy that creates financial sustainability for a fast growing and respected not for profit.

——

Cellular Agriculture Australia is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to enabling the impact potential of cellular agriculture in Australia.

We are in an exciting phase of our evolution. We are growing our core team, implementing a new strategy that sets our course for 2023 and 2024 and are gaining real traction through the relationships we have built and the initiatives we have delivered in 2022.

We are really excited by this role, the opportunity it presents, and what it will do to support the growth of CAA and our impact.

The context for this role:

We have doubled (from last calendar year) our expected revenue and expenditure in our 2023 budget and have reached the point where we can invest in a number of critical roles that are essential to the future growth of the organisation.

We are diversifying our funding sources and have a goal of becoming a self sustaining organisation. In the next 24 months, our goal is to have all core operating expenses covered by recurring revenue streams and rely on grants and one off donations for specific projects.

There are two aspects to the Head of Fundraising and Business Development role:

Firstly, it will encompass fundraising in the typical not-for-profit sense with a focus on nurturing existing donors and broadening our donor network. In parallel, the role involves development and execution of a business development strategy including the creation of recurring revenue streams to fund our operations and activities. The approach will balance our current position and our aspirations for growth and impact.

Importantly, we are also looking to build our senior leadership team and bring in fresh thinking and a new set of eyes and ears to the organisation.

What we are looking for:
  • Above all else, we are looking for culture fit. You want to be part of a small, nimble and highly-collaborative team that believes in the potential of cellular agriculture and are motivated to develop a more sustainable and accessible food system.
  • You have a proven track record in developing and implementing fundraising and business development strategies – particularly in small organisations.
  • You have a solid understanding of effective approaches to fundraising and business development within not-for-profit organisations.
  • You believe in developing recurring income streams as a core revenue source of not-for-profit organisations.
  • You want a ‘seat at the table’ and to be part of designing and delivering on the future direction and impact of our organisation.
  • You thrive on being accountable for achieving agreed revenue targets.
  • Whilst you’re focussed on targets, you are also willing to roll your sleeves up and support the operational management of the organisation and its programs, when needed.

We want to learn about your strengths and how they can align with and contribute to where we are going. We recognise the power and importance of diversity in our team and across the sector. As such, we recognise that formal application processes don’t suit everyone, so please let us know if there is a better way of getting to know you.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify, manage and deliver short-term revenue generating opportunities with a minimum target of AUD 75,000 cash-in-bank within 6-months.
  • Manage CAA’s income pipeline and ensure CAA is able to identify potential and relevant grants and other philanthropic opportunities in Australia and internationally.
  • Develop an approach to build a high-net-worth network around CAA.
  • Identify, manage and deliver revenue generating opportunities to create a recurring revenue base to support CAA’s future growth. This will include:
  • Managing the evolution of CAA’s corporate sponsorship and
  • partnership packages.
  • Scoping the potential of a membership model for CAA.
  • To be successful in this role, you will secure a minimum AUD $200,000 of cash in the bank linked to strategic priorities or as untied funding within the first 12 months.
What we can offer:
  • A competitive remuneration package of up to AUD $100,000 (plus incentives) with access to full salary packaging arrangements (up to $15,900 + $2,650 Meal Entertainment benefits).
  • 4 weeks of annual leave along with additional paid leave over the Christmas shutdown period.
  • Parity of salaries across similar roles, including those in the Senior Leadership Team.
  • A high degree of transparency and inclusivity from the get-go.
  • A seat at the table as part of the Senior Leadership Team where you will be integral in shaping the future of our fundraising and business development strategy.
  • Part-time and highly flexible work conditions including remote work anywhere in Australia or where international time zones permit. We are currently a completely remote team.
  • Exposure to all facets of the cellular agriculture sector in Australia.
  • The opportunity to shape your position description and career progression with us as our organisation and your role evolves.

The role is part-time at either 0.6 or 0.8FTE (equivalent to 3-4 working days) and is fully remote (anywhere in Australia or where time zones permit). Please note we are not in a position to sponsor visas.
