Atlantic Fish Co is hiring a Senior Scientist, Cell Line Engineering. This role will be in charge of developing a platform to use bioengineering to develop commercially viable fish cell lines for cultivated seafood production. We are looking for a candidate that is excited about working at a small startup and willing to wear a broad range of hats. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who wants to build a program from the ground up. This will be a high-impact, critical role which will play a large part in the development of our core technology. We believe that bioengineering/synthetic biology is key to lowering the cost of cultivated meat/seafood and we are looking for someone that can contribute meaningfully towards this endeavor.

This role will be full-time, on-site at our laboratory in Raleigh, NC. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a platform for bioengineering fish cell lines
  • Develop and validate commercially viable fish cell lines for the production of cultivated seafood
  • Manage external partners (vendors, collaborators) to achieve goals
  • Prepare reports for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Maintain a clean and organized lab environment 
  • Perform experimental work and analyze results

We are looking for all of these qualifications:

  • PhD in a relevant area
  • 0-2 years of post-PhD experience 
  • 1+ first or co-first author publication 

 We are looking for a mix of this technical experience: 

  • Bioinformatics experience: designing, implementing, analyzing tools/datasets (genome-scale metabolic models, 'omics datasets, etc.)
  • Identifying relevant genetic targets to modulate a specific cell behavior (e.g., growth rate, lactate production, etc. ) 
  • Modifying gene expression in eukaryotes
  • Programming experience (R, Python, or MATLAB)
  • Designing, engineering, and evaluating synthetic biology tools and relevant analytical assays
  • Working with cells in non-adherent culture conditions 

 

We are looking for a mix of these soft skills:

  • Willing to contribute to projects outside primary expertise
  • Ability to design projects and set/achieve milestones that contribute to company goals
  • Ability to work independently
