About CocoaNexus Limited

CocoaNexus Limited is an agritech and sustainability focused startup company building digital infrastructure to power traceable, transparent, and sustainable cocoa supply chain. Through its CocoaNexus Farm Management System (FMS), the company enables farmer registration, farm GPS mapping, and farm-level data generation to support traceability, deforestation monitoring, responsible sourcing, and compliance with emerging global regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

CocoaNexus has already developed a proprietary Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and conducted initial pilot deployments with users in the cocoa value chain. The next stage of growth is to build a scalable, robust, and fully functional digital traceability platform capable of supporting thousands of farmers, supply chain actors, and sustainability stakeholders.

To achieve this vision, CocoaNexus is seeking a Database Engineer / Developer Co-Founder based in Europe or the United Kingdom who is passionate about agriculture, sustainability, food systems, and supply chain transparency.

Role Overview

The Database Engineer / Developer Co-Founder will lead the design, architecture, and development of the CocoaNexus FMS database infrastructure, ensuring the platform is scalable, secure, and capable of handling complex farm-level data and geospatial information.

The ideal candidate should have experience in data engineering, backend systems, agricultural data systems, blockchain or traceability solutions, and is interested in contributing to solutions addressing sustainable agriculture, food security, and responsible supply chains. Experience in the cocoa sector is an advantage but not required; willingness to learn and engage deeply with the sector is essential.

Key Responsibilities

1. Database Architecture & Development

• Design, build and scale the core database architecture for the CocoaNexus Farm Management System (FMS)
• Develop scalable data models for farmer profiles, farm geolocation, crop production data, supply chain transactions, and sustainability indicators
• Ensure database systems support large-scale traceability and compliance reporting.

2. Data Infrastructure & Integration

• Map out the integration of geospatial data (GIS, satellite imagery, GPS mapping) into the platform.
• Build systems that enable data synchronization between aonline and offline mobile data collection and cloud databases.
• Ensure interoperability with third-party systems, sustainability certification platforms, and supply chain management tools.

3. Traceability & Transparency Systems

• Develop database structures that support end-to-end supply chain traceability.
• Explore integration with blockchain or distributed ledger technologies where relevant for transparency and verification.

4. Platform Performance & Security

• Ensure data security, integrity, and privacy in compliance with international data protection standards.
• Optimize database performance for high-volume data environments.
• Develop APIs and backend services that power analytics dashboards and reporting tools.

5. Strategic Technology Leadership

• Collaborate with the founder and product team to define technology roadmap and platform scalability strategy.
• Contribute to product design that meets the needs of farmers, exporters, regulators, and sustainability programs.
• Support future fundraising, partnerships, and investor conversations related to the technology platform.

Desired Qualifications

1. Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or related field.

2. Experience in database design, backend development, and cloud infrastructure.

3. Proficiency in technologies such as:

• SQL / NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.)
• Backend frameworks (Node.js, Python, or similar)
• Cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• APIs and microservices architecture

4. Familiarity with geospatial data systems (GIS, GPS mapping) is a strong advantage.

5. Knowledge of blockchain, supply chain traceability, or sustainability data systems is a plus.

6. Interest in agriculture, sustainability, food systems, or climate-related innovation.

Co-Founder Commitment & Compensation

This is an equity-based co-founder opportunity suited for someone passionate about building impactful technology from the ground up.

• The selected Database Engineer / Developer will join as a Co-Founder.
• Equity shares will be allocated based on commitment, technical contribution, and agreed terms.
• The role requires dedication of time, expertise, and technical leadership to develop and scale the CocoaNexus platform.
• Compensation will primarily be equity-based during the early stage, with profit-sharing once the platform is commercialized.
