Job Summary

Shicken’s Management Accountant is a key and responsible role that is critical to the success of the business. As the business progresses through stages of growth, the Management Accountant will be responsible for ensuring we are recording transactions accurately and timely, managing our finances effectively, and produce timely management/board reports. This position will have the opportunity to grow into further responsibilities, such as be responsible for advising and guiding the team to achieve manufacturing cost savings, accurate product costing and commercial negotiations and proposals that help to grow the brand whilst maintaining profitability.  

Responsibilities:

The Management Accountant will initially be responsible for both bookkeeping and management accounting responsibilities. As the business grows, this role will be expected to build a team to support the increased scope as needed.

Bookkeeping responsibilities

·       Daily bank reconciliations

·       Full purchase ledger responsibility, including supplier statement reconciliations and creditor payments.

·       Full sales ledger responsibility, including issuing / submitting invoices, chasing debts, handling claims/debits.

·       Responsible for payroll, including all associated administration - holidays, new starters, RTI submissions, pensions, etc.

·       Preparing and submitting VAT returns

Management responsibilities

·       Preparing weekly performance reporting

·       Collate information to monitor and report on product costs including through innovation development and launch

·       Collate information to monitor and report on manufacturing efficiency

·       Collate information and report on customer / range and product profitability  

 

·       Completing monthly journals and preparing monthly management accounts

·       Supporting the Founders to set an annual budget and monitor

·       Reporting on year end forecast through monitoring actual against budget

·       Working with the Founders to develop long-term business plans based on these reports

·       Manage external Accountant contract

·       Prepare and review annual R&D claims

Qualifications and Experience

  • An appropriate degree and/or qualification as an accountant
  • Proven track record of bookkeeping and Management Accounting responsibilities
  • Proven track record in monitoring and reporting to senior management
  • Experience in FMCG or manufacturing in general would be advantageous
  • Thorough and advanced knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Chartered status and membership of a professional body is preferable but not essential
