You will be joining THE PACK at a crucial period as they launch into the $100 billion pet-care space. THE PACK, is one of Europe’s first plant-based food technology pet food startups and is set to be a leading player in the coming years as alt-proteins enter the pet food market.

Financial Controller (Part-Time Freelance)

We’re looking for a highly adaptable finance professional to join THE PACK at this exciting time. Due to the early nature of the company you will be expected to work mostly across financial control operations but also contribute to strategic work when required.

This role offers an opportunity to be a part of a company that is set to grow rapidly in the coming years and become a market leading alt-protein pet food company.

As the company grows this role offers an opportunity to increase your strategic input into the growth of the company and expand responsibilities. There is also an opportunity for the hour to become a full-time and permanent position as the business scales.

You will report directly to THE PACK CEO, Damien Clarkson.


About the role:


* Full responsibility for Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A)

* Manage the relationship with our accountancy provider, tax advisors and lawyers where appropriate

* Review financial functions and streamline processes and improve the financial health of the company. Ensuring monthly management accounts are provided and insights provided for board reporting.

* Oversee all activities related to HMRC tax compliance issues, filing paperwork for investment rounds and other compliance work.

* Oversee company secretarial matters.


* Oversee the commercial health of the business providing regular feedback and reports to THE PACK management team and devising and implementing action plans to improve performance.

* Managing financial forecasting and budgets working with managers to set quarterly budgets and providing monthly financial snapshots comparing projected performance with actual performance.

* Plan and manage 8-12 week rolling cash flow forecast, including managing credit control

* Provide monthly snapshot financial reports to the management team providing insight to accompany the numbers

* Act as the primary support person to quarterly and year end financial activities e.g. end of year accounts, working with accountancy operations on submitting VAT returns.

* Manage relationship with external bodies including financial auditors

* Reconciling payments at the end of the month, salaries, supplier invoices.

* Support management team by providing projections and insights for business fundraising activities.

* Running an existing full financial model and reporting key KPI’s to the leadership team monthly, updating the model as required to fit changing business needs.

* Monthly financial summary for investor updates.

* Other ad hoc duties may be required due to the rapidly growing and early stage of the business.

Key Skills and Experience:

* Full or part qualified with CCAB recognised qualification
* 5+ years’ experience in a managerial accounting position
* Exceptional Excel skills required with budgeting evidence
* Experience and use of accounts management software Xero
* Confident communicator with great stakeholder management skills
* Experience working in a startup environment is crucial, ideally this would have been with an FMCG brand.
* Ideally passionate about the plant-based movement
* Lover of dogs!


Salary and Hours

Fixed term contract (initially)
1 day a week
£300 per day
Remote role but UK based and able to attend occasional real life budgeting meetings.

Hours and role to be reviewed after 3 months with the opportunity for adaptation of hours and tweaking of role.
